Unions demand 150 million for damage due to long-term corona complaints

Trade unions FNV and AOb want the cabinet to make 150 million euros available for people from care and education who are struggling with long-term corona complaints. If this so-called long-covid fund is not established, the unions will go to court and hold the State liable, they write to the cabinet.

According to the unions, more than a thousand healthcare and education employees with long-term corona complaints have lost their jobs. “We see more and more arguments for a collective liability claim and are preparing this procedure,” they write. They are making the claim on behalf of victims of long covid who have knocked on the door of various hotlines.

At least 6000 patients reported

In concrete terms, the unions want the cabinet to make a scheme that is comparable to the existing schemes for asbestos and OPS victims, with a maximum compensation of 22,000 euros per victim. The cabinet should reserve the necessary 150 million euros in the Spring Memorandum.

With the fund, “the heroes who sacrificed their health finally get recognition for their situation”, according to a letter to ministers Van Gennip (Social Affairs), Helder (Long-term Care), Dijkgraaf (OCW) and Wiersma (Education). .

More than 6000 healthcare and education employees have reported to FNV and AOb. “It is very difficult for these lung covid patients to get recognition and compensation for the costs incurred.”
