In the IT industry, companies have comparatively a lot of leeway when it comes to wage increases. The union wants to change that.
Vienna. There is a crisis in IT. In the future industry, which has received a further boost from the pandemic (IT services were particularly in demand due to the large home office), wage negotiations are stalling. It’s about the collective agreement for around 90,000 employees. The union called for a demonstration in front of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Wednesday. Today, Thursday, the negotiations on the collective agreement continue: it is already the seventh round.
The industry is doing well; sales, workforce levels and investments have recently increased. Nevertheless, the chances of reaching an agreement in the wage dispute are moderate. “If both sides stick to their knockout demands, there will be no conclusion,” the employers told the “press” on Wednesday. And the union said that they “currently see no willingness to compromise on the part of employers.”
