“Union of DDEN announces winners of ‘To Build Oneself a Citizen’ competition”

On Wednesday May 24, the jury of the competition “to build oneself a citizen” organized by the Union of Departmental Delegates of National Education (DDEN) of Lot-et-Garonne announced the list of winners of the first edition. Of the 13 schools that submitted their application, 8 were selected and will receive the €300 grant.

It is within the headquarters of the MGEN that the jury of the competition “To build oneself a citizen” met to give its verdict. Composed of five people from partner organizations of the competition, (MAIF, MGEN, Ligue de l’Enseignement, Maison de l’Europe and the mayor of Buzet sur Baïse Jean-Louis Molinié), the jury selected eight of the thirteen files presented for this first edition of the competition.

Set up by the Union of DDEN of Lot-et-Garonne, this competition aims to reward citizen and solidarity initiatives of classes and/or establishments. For each file, the jury examined six criteria in particular: the objective of the project, the connection with the school project, the commitment of the students and their civic approach, openness to others. Being able to choose up to ten projects, the jury kept those of the Marcel Pagnol school in Aiguillon, the elementary school in Damazan, the primary school in Aubiac, the CP class in Sainte-Colombe-en-Brulhois, Carnot kindergarten, Gaillard primary school and elementary school Elisée Reclus d’Agen and the Jean Moulin de Boé school. All will receive a grantion of €300.

“The competition allows the DDEN to be present differently within the school”

Christiane Lafaye, president of the Union of DDEN of 47, is at the origin of this contest. Delegate to the schools of Nérac since 2007, she sees in this system an opportunity for the DDEN to get involved differently in their establishments.

In each establishment, the DDEN has “a role of mediator and coordinator” with the three other actors which are the school, the parents and the municipality. A volunteer, appointed for four years by the rectorate, the DDEN participates in school boards, meets with the academy inspector and visits schools each year to check the safety and well-being of pupils. “He checks everything that depends on the town hall and the medical, he does not intervene on educational issues”, summarizes the president. Having to keep a neutral posture to promote dialogue, the DDEN must be outside the school for which it is assigned (neither parents of a pupil, nor employee, nor municipal elected official).

Ideally, each school should be able to accommodate a delegate. In Lot-et-Garonne, less than 50% of schools have a DDEN. If they are 74 today, Christianne Lafaye remembers that there were more than 220 ten years ago. The president hopes that more people will commit, fearing that several elderly DDEN will not renew their mission in 2025.
