No mercy in the Champions League – Real Madrid’s stars against the league
Before the Champions Leagueshowdown on Tuesday evening against Real Madrid (9 p.m. on DAZN), one can hardly hope for leniency from the league.
Real are so far unbeaten in the top division and all the stars are in Berlin. Real Madrid are confirmed as group winners. It is unclear whether superstars like Jude Bellingham (20) or Luka Modric (38) will survive. The Argentinian Nico Paz (19 years old, attacking midfielder) is expected to be in the starting line-up.
Despite winning the group, Real Madrid still hopes to win against Union Berlin
The top-class record winner (14 times) is missing some regulars. That’s why all the other stars are in Berlin. Defender Lucas Vázquez (32) made it clear that the league cannot expect any mercy: “Our goal is a sixth win.” Real last achieved this in the 2014/15 season.
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti (64) said: “Our goal was to win the group and we achieved that. Now we hope to finish the group well and play a good game. We hope we give our best and win the game.”
Vazquez continued: “There is nothing better than playing in the Champions League with Real Madrid. This competition is something very special. We will give our best.”
Nevertheless, the Spaniard warned the Berliners after the first leg (1-0): “The first leg was very complicated and we only scored the winning goal very late. Union is a good team and the defense is also good. They come through the team.” . Your counterattacks will be dangerous. We have to stay focused, it will be a tough game.”
Ancelotti expects the Union team’s performance to be different than in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu – especially because of new coach Nenad Bjelica (52). Ancelotti: “They play in a different system. The style of play has changed. They will play more offensively. The new coach signed the team.”
The Real Madrid professionals are staying at the Ritz-Carlton on Potsdamer Platz. This is the first visit to Berlin since July 2011. Stars like Cristiano Ronaldo (38) and Karim Benzema (35) played in the 3-1 win against Hertha BSC in the Olympic Stadium.
