The game against the second division side Nürnberg is practically the dress rehearsal before the start of the competitive game for the Köpenickers, who have played a proper preparation so far.

Of the six test games that Union has played so far, three games have been won and once they shared the points with their opponents.

“It is our last preparatory game before the start of the competitive game and we have resolved to keep the things that have worked well and to do better what we haven’t done so well in the last few games. We have to be well organized defensively and be more dangerous on the way forward, “said Union coach Urs Fischer (54) about the upcoming test match.

1. FC Union Berlin will face second division Karlsruher SC in the first round of the new season in the first round of the DFB Cup.

On Saturday, the iron fans will finally be supported again by their fans, because from September, according to the current infection protection ordinance, open-air events with a maximum of 5000 people will again be permitted in Berlin. However, there is no contingent for guest fans.

Nuremberg coach Robert Klauss (35), who was born in Eberswalde near Berlin, announced that his team would not take the game lightly: “We will approach the game as if it were a competitive game”.

“We’re not going to switch completely at halftime. The players who are currently on the pitch after the impressions of the first few weeks will be the best. But that doesn’t mean that this will be the team that will play against Leipzig.” he explained.

What is meant is the clash between Nuremberg and RB Leipzig in the first round of the DFB Cup.

With this declaration of war, one can only hope that the game doesn’t end like the last time the two clubs met.

On January 26, 2018, Union and Nuremberg played against each other in the 2nd Bundesliga for the last time. In the game there was a turbulent final phase with two dismissals for the Iron and one for the Nuremberg, who in the end won 1-0 in Berlin.

The game also has a historical character, as the An der Alten Försterei stadium is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It was opened on August 7, 1920 with a game against 1. FC Nürnberg.
