One month after the strike ended at ArcelorMittal, the National Miners’ Union, headed by Senator Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, and the company signed an agreement to review the distribution of profits, granted in the years 2021, 2022 and 2023 by the steel company, located in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, reported the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
With this agreement, he indicated, the audit processes will be followed up to determine whether the payment of profits demanded by the more than 3 thousand workers of section 271 was correct, who decided to hang the red and black flags in the steel plant on May 24 due to their dissatisfaction, considering that the distribution of profits they obtained was unfair, since the largest steel producer in the world achieved good economic returns in 2023.
The aforementioned agreement is part of the agreements reached on July 18, after 55 days of strike, by the National Mining Union and the Indian-owned multinational, which involves carrying out a fiscal audit of ArcelorMittal for the years 2022 and 2023 by an external accounting firm appointed by the STPS, with the commitment to respond to the Union’s challenges within 35 business days after the signing of the agreement, that is, starting this August 16.
If there is a balance in favor, the company committed to make the payment within the following 20 business days. Additionally, the STPS committed that the Tax Administration Service will respond to the objections presented for the 2021 fiscal year no later than April 2025.
