Uninsured vehicles: Fire fines are coming – 2024-09-07 01:46:33

The Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) is trying to end the problem with uninsured vehicles with the application that will make it easy and fast to insure the vehicle.

Crossings for uninsured vehicles will be made through the new digital database drawn from the relevant public services and highway concessionaires.

Checks for uninsured vehicles

AADE plans to set up roadblocks at toll roads, highways, ports with inspectors who, through a special application of mobile devices to scan license plates, will be able to see the vehicles which, while they have been declared stationary, are circulating on the roads.

Even more severe are the fines, for vehicles which have been declared immobile and continue to circulate. For a vehicle, for which immobility has been declared, if it is detected in the context of checks, either passing by or parked in a different place than that which has been declared in the electronic declaration of immobility, the immobility is automatically lifted and imposed by the AADE in addition to the traffic fees and the fine for non-payment thereof and administrative fine of 10,000 euros.

The fines

Violators will be faced with fines starting from 250 euros and reaching, depending on the type of violation, up to 30,000 euros in the event of a recurrence, while administrative sanctions such as the removal of license plates and driver’s license are also foreseen.

In particular, the fines for offenders are:

  • From 250 to 1,000 euros if the vehicle is found to be uninsured. Specifically, the law provides for a fine of 1,000 euros for public use buses and trucks, 500 euros for passenger cars and other vehicles of any nature and 250 euros for two-wheelers.
  • The amount of the road tax (plus annual fees) in the case of uninsured vehicles, if at least one year’s road tax debt is established.
  • 400 euros if the vehicle has not been subjected to a periodic inspection by a Vehicle Technical Inspection Center.
  • In the event of a repeat offence, fines are doubled and the vehicle’s license and state plates are revoked. They are returned only upon presentation of the relevant insurance policy or the valid technical inspection report of the vehicle or the certificate of non-payment of road tax, as the case may be, and proof of payment of the fine.
