Unilever: Preparing to show the exit door to 90 workers –

On the contrary, as everything shows, time is running out for the final decisions to be made regarding job cuts in the Unilever subsidiary in Greece, within the framework of the pan-European reorganization of the multinational’s activities.

Although the landscape still remains murky regarding the multinational’s intentions regarding the exact number of employees, reports want about 75 to 90 workers facing the exit door during the first wave of layoffs.

Unilever’s Consultations with the Union

The same information states that workers have until the end of next week to declare their participation in the voluntary exit program that was activated about a month ago, after a round of consultations with the workers’ union, with the package said to be similar to the years of work in the company.

An announcement regarding the developments at Unilever in Greece was also issued yesterday by the Federation of Workers in the Dairy – Food – Beverage Industry, in which it states that in September the company in Greece announced its plan regarding its 300 employees, prioritizing 75 voluntary exits and the transfer 15 employees at a contractor-partner of Unilever.

Which, according to the Federation, means that around 90 workers are leaving the company.

Consultations

It is recalled that the management of Unilever in Greece and the workers’ union started consultations last September, with the company stressing in a statement that its main priority is “to ensure that this change is as smooth as possible for all workers whose positions will be affected”.

The job cuts follow the multinational’s decision to cut 3,200 jobs in Europe and 7,500 worldwide, according to reports in the international press. It should be noted that the multinational employs 10,000-11,000 office workers in Europe and approximately 128,000 people worldwide.

Normally the power supply

The job cuts in Greece, as Unilever Hellas had recently stated to OT, do not concern the entire company, but specifically the roles of office workers, while the workers at the Rentis factory and the Rentis and Schimatario distribution centers are excluded from this process.

He also hastened to underline that “the supply of the Greek market will not be affected at all” by the ongoing interventions while clarifying that there is no plan to entrust the activity of the Unilever group in Greece to another company.
Unilever’s activities in Greece

In Greece, Unilever operates with Elais Unilever Hellas AE, Unilever Knorr, under whose ownership the factory in Rentis is located, and Unilever Logistics, which is the company of the multinational in the sector of storage, management and distribution of its products in the Greek market.

It employs more than 450 workers, maintains an established supply chain in Greece through its factory in Renti, Attica and 2 privately owned distribution centers, while working with more than 1,000 local suppliers.

It should be noted that from 1/1/2022 the activity at the Rentis factory now concerns the provision of services for the production of products using the method of fashion with materials of the affiliated company UNILEVER EUROPE BV (UEBV).

After Elais olive oil and margarine were spun off and sold to KKR’s Upfield in 2017, at the beginning of July 2021 the company transferred the Pummaro and Pelargos tomato products brands together with the tomato processing plant in Gastouni to MINERVA SA.
