Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk (UNVR) spoke up in response to news of mass layoffs (PHK) within the company.

UNVR responded to the news on Wednesday (6/4/2022). In the disclosure of information on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the company claimed that the information was not true. UNVR said it “only made adjustments” to certain units in the company.
“Regarding the news currently circulating, we need to emphasize that the Company in this case did not carry out mass layoffs, but the Company made adjustments to certain units that impacted the 161 employees in Rungkut who are currently still in the process. The number of employees affected by the total number of employees working in the Company’s factories is 4.9%,” wrote UNVR.
The company said the adjustments were made in line with UNVR’s strategy to continue to survive in the midst of a changing and challenging situation, and to remain relevant in the future. This is done along with the transformation of end-to-end the company’s business operations.
UNVR also claimed to have communicated openly with the affected workers. The communication carried out included bipartite meetings with the union which took place twice, all employees, outreach/townhall, and personal communication to affected employees.
“In addition to severance compensation that exceeds the standard of obligations stipulated by law, the Company is also committed to providing various other supports including incentives, training, and a series of benefit packages that will support the readiness of affected employees to remain productive after completing their tenure at the Company,” he said. .
“In the future and throughout the process, the Company remains committed to opening all lines of communication with employees and trade unions. This transition process will also be carried out in accordance with applicable regulations in Indonesia,” wrote UNVR.
