The EU regulation, which aims to reduce e-waste and will standardize different charging inputs for various electronic devices such as USB-C, Micro USB and Lightning, has been published in the Official Journal of the EU.

Therefore, the effective date of the requirement for phone manufacturers to use a USB-C charging cable was December 28, 2024.

From this date, USB-C will be the new standard charging port for portable electronics. All new smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, portable game consoles, speakers, keyboards, etc. they will have a USB-C charging port.

THE CHANGE WILL PARTICULARLY AFFECT APPLE

From that date, new Apple devices will also have to include a USB-C port.

The EU had previously announced that the deadline for the implementation in question was autumn 2024. With the completion of the judicial process, the date of entry into force of the tariff uniform became clear.

Currently, most Android devices are charged through the USB-C port. New laptops with headphones and various other accessories also use the same jack.

The regulation should affect the Apple company, which uses different charging inputs.

Apple uses a different input called lightning on its smartphones, some tablets and headphones. The company prefers the USB-C input in its new iPads and laptops.
