Yesterday, the international forces operating in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) called on the Lebanese authorities to investigate an incident in which one of its patrols was attacked and one of its members was injured in the town of Taybeh in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL said, in a statement yesterday, “A peacekeeping soldier was injured last night after a UNIFIL patrol was attacked by a group of young men in the town of Taybeh in southern Lebanon, and a vehicle was also damaged in the incident,” adding, “We call on the Lebanese authorities to conduct a full investigation.” “And quickly bring all the perpetrators to justice.”
She continued, “Attacks on men and women who serve the cause of peace are not only condemnable, but also constitute a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and Lebanese law,” stressing that “the freedom of movement of peacekeeping forces is vital as we work to restore security and stability along the Blue Line.”
It is noteworthy that a member of the UNIFIL forces was injured last night, as a result of a dispute between unknown persons and a patrol of the Indonesian battalion affiliated with UNIFIL, in the town of Taybeh, south of Lebanon.
