UNIFIL Commander Cancels Visit to Dhahira Amid Tensions in Central-South Lebanon

Central – South Lebanon is living in a state of cautious anticipation due to developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, at a time when information reported that the UNIFIL Forces Commander canceled his visit to Dhahira today and halted all activities in the western sector.

The official spokesman for UNIFIL, Andrea Tenenti, told the MTV website, “The situation in the south is tense, and we continue to urge the parties along the Blue Line not to slide further toward war.” He added, “We hope and urge the parties in Lebanon to cease fire.” Fire and allow us to propose a solution to this crisis, as no one wants to see more people killed and injured.”

Tenenti pointed out that “UNIFIL’s plan changes according to the security conditions on the ground, and we have not changed anything in terms of our deployment and our agenda is determined by the security situation in the country.”

Tenenti said, “UNIFIL peacekeepers are still in their positions and carrying out their tasks.”

He added: “Our work continues, including regular activities such as troop rotations inside and outside Lebanon. We have no plans to leave, and we are doing our best around the clock to defuse tension and prevent further deterioration of the situation.”
