Five Indian soldiers were killed and one was injured in an attack in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir by unidentified terrorists. The Indian Army vehicle was fired upon at around 3 pm in Bhata Dhurian falls. The soldiers were from the Rashtriya Rifles Unit and were deployed for counterterrorist operations when the vehicle caught fire due to likely use of grenades by terrorists. The defence minister Rajnath Singh was briefed by Army Chief General Manoj Pande about the attack, and search operations and drone surveillance are underway to identify the perpetrators. The Sangiot area, where the ambush happened, has traditionally been a transit route for Pakistani terrorists according to intelligence sources. Traffic has been suspended from Bhimber Gali to Surankote following the terror attack.
