The Egyptian army announced that what happened to the city of Taba, at dawn on Friday, was the result of the fall of “an unidentified drone” near one of the buildings in the vicinity of the city’s hospital, which is located on the Red Sea and adjacent to Israel.

The Egyptian Armed Forces spokesman issued a statement in which he said: “One of the unidentified drones fell this Friday morning next to one of the buildings next to Taba Hospital.”

He continued: “The accident resulted in minor injuries to 6 individuals, and they were discharged from the hospital after receiving the necessary first aid. The accident is under investigation by a specialized committee of the concerned authorities.”

For its part, the Israeli army said on Friday that “an injury was suffered by Egypt” resulting from “an air threat in the Red Sea region,” without clarifying whether it meant what happened in the city of Taba, according to Reuters.

He explained in a statement, “In recent hours, an air threat was detected in the Red Sea region, and warplanes were called in to deal with it,” adding that the incident “is still under investigation.” He added: “According to our assessment, the injury suffered by Egypt resulted from this threat.”

The statement said: “Israel will work with Egypt and the United States and strengthen protection in the region, in the face of threats coming from the Red Sea vicinity.”

The Egyptian Ministry of Health had revealed in a previous statement on Friday that “4 injured people have left the hospital, while the rest of the injured are expected to be discharged in the coming hours.”

Local and international media reported news of an explosion in Taba, adjacent to the Israeli border, early Friday.

Earlier Friday, a witness told Reuters, “An explosion was heard, and thick smoke and dust were seen rising early Friday, in an Egyptian resort on the Red Sea near the Israeli border.”

Statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Health regarding those injured in the Taba explosion

On Friday, the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced details of the health condition of those injured as a result of an “explosive object” falling inside the city of Taba on the Sinai Peninsula.

The Egyptian Cairo News Channel broadcast images of the explosion live, and reported, citing sources, that the explosion “is related to a missile that fell in Taba.”

Taba is an Egyptian city with a very popular tourist character, affiliated with the South Sinai Governorate, and is located at the head of the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea opposite the coastal city of Eilat in Israel, more than 350 km (220 miles) from Gaza.

The Israeli National Security Council had called on Israeli citizens to leave Egypt and other Arab countries “immediately,” in light of the escalation of regional tensions due to the war with Gaza that has been ongoing since October 7th.

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian army announced, on Sunday, that there were “some minor injuries” among the Egyptian forces on the border with Israel, as a result of “accidental” shelling from an Israeli tank, without specifying the number of wounded.
