The university choir of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) is celebrating “Spanish Nights” this summer semester. The program includes the most beautiful opera choruses from the Spanish opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet as well as the famous opera chorus from “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi.
The Unichor not only presents the great opera choirs, but also has a special feature in its repertoire: excerpts from works of the Spanish operetta form “Zarzuela” are performed. Although this genre is still relatively unknown in this country, it still sparkles with energy and wit. For the first time, the Unichor will present the works of the Zarzuela composers Pablo Sorozábal and Manuel Fernández Caballero in its program.
The guest and conference house of the HHU, Mickeln Castle, will also be the scene of a special musical event: the choir will sing there in an open-air performance on the entrance steps of the castle.
