Unicef, 93 thousand children vaccinated in Gaza in anti-polio campaign

(ANSA) – ROME, OCTOBER 15 – “Despite the incredibly complex situation in Gaza, the second phase of the polio vaccination campaign began yesterday without problems, reaching over 92,800 children with the polio vaccine and administering vitamin A to more than 76,000 children between 2 and 10 years”. This was announced in a note by Jonathan Crickx, communications manager of Unicef Palestine. “This campaign is crucial – he adds – not only to prevent the resurgence of polio, but also to safeguard the long-term health of children in Gaza, who already face enormous vulnerability due to the ongoing conflict, limited access to healthcare and malnutrition. Every dose of vaccine is a lifeline, in an environment where every safeguard is important. The first phase (of this second cycle of the polio campaign) – in the central area – will end on October 17, while the subsequent phases are scheduled for the southern and northern regions”.
