Here are some of the less healthy breakfast options that can hurt your weight maintenance goals. According to dietitians Edibel Quintero and Bill Bradley, there are some delicious foods that directly target your weight, Shefinds notes.
1. Pancakes and waffles
When you imagine a hearty breakfast, you immediately see a plate full of pancakes and waffles. Without a doubt, these popular breakfast dishes are delicious. But, warns Quintero, are dangerous to health. “Pancakes and waffles are made from white flour and are high in refined carbohydrates, which have a high glycemic index,” she notes.
“Any food that has high levels of sugar and refined processed carbohydrates can raise blood sugar levels. When these levels drop, you will be hungry and tend to overeat, resulting in weight gain,” warns the specialist.
2. Donuts and pastries
Donuts are another classic breakfast that undoubtedly delights the taste buds. Unfortunately, like waffles and pancakes, they’re high in sugar, making them one of the worst choices for your health, especially when it comes to weight management.
The same is true of many baked goods, such as muffins and doughs. “These treats are high in refined carbohydrates, sugar and saturated fat. They increase blood sugar levels and lead to an inflammatory response (in the body),” notes Quintero.
