Unfortunately, an elderly woman dies stuck in an airport baggage handler

The tragic incident happened at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Thursday morning (8/8/2024). An elderly female passenger has died after being trapped in an airport luggage machine.

Launch ABCFriday (9/8/2024), according to the Chicago Police Department, the woman, who has not been identified, is 57 years old. A Department of Labor spokesman said the woman was a public passenger, not an airport employee.

According to reports, the woman was caught in an airport baggage handler or moving machine that distributes suitcases and passengers’ luggage. Following this report, emergency response officers were called to Terminal 5 of the airport on Thursday (8/8) at approximately 07.45.

When they arrived at the scene, firefighters said they found the woman stuck in a conveyor belt system used to move luggage. Medical officials also pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

At the same time, the police said that CCTV footage in the area showed that the woman had entered the restricted area from 02.27. The woman was finally found around 07.30.

The area was declared a crime scene. The Chicago Police Department is also investigating.
