Pawan Bhai’s wife in ‘Kannur Squad’ is the character who surprised the audience with her short time on screen. The character was noted for his excellent performance in Tikri Village Etambutal which filled the theater with applause. Many have compared the character’s performance to that of Agent Tina in the Tamil film Vikram. Sushmita Shur, a Bengali, played this character who won the attention of the audience with an unforgettable performance. Although she does not know how to speak Malayalam, Sushmita loves this country, the language and the movies here. There is a reason for that. Sushmita Manorama revealed the matter online.
I am the daughter-in-law of Malayalam
I watch Malayalam movies. So I know about Mammootty the actor and star. Although I am a Bengali, I have been watching movies in many languages since ages. When I studied at the National School of Drama, I got more opportunities to watch such films. I regularly watch movies in regional languages like Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Also, I am married to a Malayali. He was my batchmate in National School of Drama. The name is Martin Jishil. His house is in Kochi Marad. So, I come to Kerala from time to time. I can understand Malayalam if I hear it.

Mammootty on the set
At first, I did not know that I got an opportunity to act in Mammootty’s film. It was only when I met him on the sets that I realized that this is a Mammootty film and that I have a combination with him. I was really surprised when he showed up unexpectedly. He was very cool. He had a positive attitude. He did not treat us like a superstar. Talked a lot. Those days were beautiful.

First seen in China
I have seen Mammooka before acting in Kannur Squad. It was while acting at the National School of Drama. We drama students went to China for a workshop. Mammooka was seen eating at a restaurant there. He was also there that day. Some of my friends went to him that day and took pictures. When I went to the sets of Kannur Squad, I showed him those pictures. He asked if you were the drama students he saw in China. Mammooka remembered that incident.

Thank you Malayalees
People who have seen the movie have given very good comments. Thank you to the Malayali audience for accepting me and my character. I studied at the National School of Drama. After that came to Mumbai. He has been in Mumbai for six years. Acting is work. He got a chance to Kannur squad through audition. Casting director Parag Mehta invited me for the audition.

The director said, I did
Everyone is doing realistic acting in movies now. So, on the first day of the shoot, I did a realistic style pattern. However, this movie is not a realistic movie. So, the director told me to do it a little louder. That’s how the style seen in the movies was established. I just obeyed what the director said.
Awesome team work
There is a shooting scene in the movie. It was a bit of a tense event. I have seen the gun. touched But the shooting scene was not acted with it. There were trained experts on set to teach us those things. Director Robby sir had a clear understanding of what to do and how to do it. There was great teamwork on the set. I have seen such teamwork when doing a good theater project. This is the first time I have experienced this from a movie.

Surprise on set
My husband Pawan is played by Manohar in the movie. Manohar was my junior in college. Manohar also gets into films through auditions. But, I didn’t know about Manohar in this movie. When I boarded the flight for the shoot in Kochi, I saw Manohar on it. We told each other that we were going to Kerala to shoot, but we did not ask or say which film it was. When we reached the set and saw each other, we were really shocked. They had to act as husband and wife in the movie. We laughed about the fact that we traveled on the same flight and met on set without knowing it.

Is this our sumi?
My character in Kannur Squad was a surprise to my Malayalam friends and relatives. Because they have seen me in the role of a housewife. They were amazed that I had turned into such a loud, gun-toting character. Their comments were, “Is this our Sumi?” I am called Sumi at home. I already know Sarath Sabha who acted in this movie. Sarath is Martin’s friend. Sarath’s mother is like my own mother. They all were shocked to see my performance in the film. All these kind of reactions and compliments from them are new to me.
