“Unfair’SAT cheating’ handles 0 points”… One year effort wasted due to a momentary mistake

-In the 2021 college academic ability test, which took place on the 3rd, there was a case in which the efforts that had been prepared for a year were in vain due to an accidental violation of the regulations for taking the 4th period.

This is a recurring problem every year, and some point out that the system needs to be improved.

On the 10th, a petition titled “Crisis of dealing with unfairly cheating (zero points treatment)” was posted on the Blue House National Petition bulletin board.

The 4th class of the SAT is a test time where you have to take all three subjects at once. You must take the Korean history and the 1st and 2nd electives in order every 30 minutes. The answers of the three subjects must be marked within one sheet of the OMR answer sheet, so if you make a mistake, you are often treated as cheating by mistake. Nearly half of the cheating on the SAT takes place in class 4. Petitioner A accidentally erased answer #17 of “Elective Course 1” in white while trying to revise answer #17 during “Elective Course 2”.

Correcting an answer for a subject that has already been completed is considered cheating. If this is violated, 0 points are awarded for all subjects.

Immediately realizing the mistake, Mr. A immediately called the supervisor without performing any further marking actions while only erasing.

The supervisor said that he had to finish the test first with the nuance that it would not be dealt with in the field and would be solved insignificantly.

However, after the test was over, Mr. A argued that when he went to the headquarters of the test center, he did not listen to his inquiries and pressed “did you touch the answer sheet for the 1st option at the 2nd time?”

Mr. A protested that there was’erasing’, but there was no’correction’, so it could not be viewed as a correction.

He emphasized that he did not secretly deal with his mistakes and called the supervisor on the spot. “If you keep your conscience, you are stigmatized as cheating. Are you encouraging students to abandon their conscience?”

“If it was my case, what kind of students would raise their hands? Anyway, even if I voluntarily raise my hand, I get a score of 0, so why don’t you just take it secretly?”

It is known that Mr. A’s case is currently in the process of deliberation to determine whether or not he is cheating.
