An unexploded ordnance was found underground at a construction site in Masagohonmachi, Kagoshima City.

According to Kagoshima City, at around 11:45 a.m. on the 9th, police received a report that something that looked like an unexploded ordnance was found in the ground at a demolition site in Masagohonmachi, Kagoshima City.

At night, an unexploded ordnance disposal team from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force arrived from Saga, and upon investigation, discovered that what they had found was a 100-pound ordinary bomb made in the United States. The bomb’s fuse is protected and there is no risk of explosion unless a shock is applied. No evacuation information such as evacuation orders has been issued.

Kagoshima City set up a task force at 10:30 p.m., and plans to discuss with related organizations such as the Self-Defense Forces and police to decide on disposal methods and schedules.

The site is approximately 900 meters west of the Kagoshima Prefectural Office, in an area lined with residential and commercial facilities.
