Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan spoke out about Tesla Inc.’s move. which will open an office in Malaysia. Luhut told reporters at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (2/3/2023), that he did not have a problem with this.

“Offices can be built anywhere,” he said.

When asked whether Tesla would invest in Indonesia, Luhut expressed his optimism.

“We are still, don’t we,” he said.

Luhut also asked the media crew to wait for Tesla’s plans to invest in Indonesia.

“Yes, please wait. If it will be announced on Monday or next week it will be announced regarding EV incentives (electric vehicles), I will talk later,” said Luhut.

As previously reported, Tesla Inc. will open an office in Malaysia. This was revealed in a tweet by the Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz on his Twitter account, Wednesday (1/3/2023).

Not only that, Malaysia will also allow Tesla to import into neighboring countries. Including opening a showroom, service center and supercharger network

“Malaysia welcomes @Tesla,” tweeted Zafrul seen by CNBC Indonesia.

@MITIMAlaysia (ministration) has approved Tesla’s application to import BEVs into Malaysia. Tesla will establish Headquarters, Tesla Experience & Service Center and Supercharger Network.”

Tesla’s presence in Malaysia is also expected to create skilled jobs. Including increasing the participation of local companies in the Tesla ecosystem.

However, it is not clear when Malaysia will officially open an office in the neighboring country. Quoting Reuters, Elon Musk’s company representative also did not respond to a request for comment on this matter.

Previously, Tesla was a producer of electric vehicles, which was also targeted by the Indonesian government to open a company here. The government will also offer incentives to the United States (US) automaker, ranging from tax breaks to concessions to mine nickel.
