The general director of the Colossal Order studio, Mariina Hallikainen, admitted to reporters that the resounding success of the city-planning simulator Cities: Skylines came as a surprise to her and the entire team. The developers expected to sell 300,000 copies, but the actual circulation exceeded expectations 40 times and reached 12 million copies:
The success of the game took us by surprise. We didn’t expect such success in the sense that the game was not designed for such a long term.
High sales Cities: Skylines led to the fact that the developers had to reconsider their plans to support the game and even postpone other projects. Over the past eight years, the title has received many additions.
Original Cities: Skylines was developed by a team of ten people. About two dozen developers worked on the sequel.
Cities: Skylines 2 will be released on October 24 on PC. Console versions will appear in spring 2024.
