It was spring, now suddenly winter again. There was a white wake in many places in Switzerland on Thursday. The snow has returned to the Lowlands. “Snow limit between 500 and 800 meters, lower in places in the morning,” Meteo Switzerland reported. This is what happened in Bern and Zurich, among other places.
For the rest of the day, the weather service reports “mostly cloudy, with a few, sometimes heavy, showers.” Anyway: The temperature should rise a bit again soon. In the Lowlands, Meteo Switzerland expects “around 7 degrees in the afternoon”.
Snowfall is rare from mid-April
According to the Federal Office, spring snow showers are not unusual. “On a long-term average, the main plateau north of the Alps has 2-3 days of new snow in March and 1-2 days of new snow in April. ” But: “Snowfalls from mid-April onwards are very rare,” says Meteoschweiz.
