Inconvenience for the National Basketball team, due to a security issue that arose at Gatwick Airport in London, affecting the team’s return to Greece.
The Authorities ordered the precautionary evacuation of the airport and – according to an EEC announcement, “the mission of the team is outside and awaiting further instructions”.
The national team was in London for the match against England as part of its qualifiers Eurobasket 2025. The match took place on Thursday night, with Spanoulis’ team losing on points with 73-72.

The EEC update
A security issue at London’s Gatwick Airport is affecting the men’s national team’s departure from London.
At the time when the delivery of the luggage was being completed, the security officers ordered the evacuation of the airport, which was done in an orderly and calm manner and at this time (13.00 Greece) the team’s mission is outside and awaiting instructions on what to do next.
The airport administration also issued a related announcement: “The safety of our passengers and staff remains our first priority. We are working hard to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
