Unexpected Birthday Gift from Myanmar Protesters for Junta Leader Pimpinan

junta leader Myanmar military, General Min Aung Hlaing get an unexpected birthday gift from the anti-coup protesters. It is known that Min’s 65th birthday.

As reported by Reuters on Sunday (4/7/2021), Min Aung Hlaing’s birthday was last Saturday (3/7). The demonstrators welcomed the ‘special’ day by burning his picture and a mock coffin as a form of anger over coup d’etat which has lasted more than 5 months.

Horror threatening remarks were inscribed in a bouquet of flowers on the junta leader’s birthday. Sentences such as “May you not rest in peace” and “May your birthday and death be the same,” were written on rows of wreaths in Theinzayet township, eastern Mon state.

Not only in one place, protests on Min’s birthday also occurred in many states in Myanmar.

“We burn this as a curse,” said a protester in the city of Mandalay, burning a small pile of photos of the 65-year-old general.

A spokesman for Myanmar’s junta did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters on the protesters’ actions.

Min Aung Hlaing Failed To Retire

It is known in the previous regulation, Min Aung Hlaing should have retired at the age of 65 years. However, the mandatory retirement age, originally 65, was canceled after the coup took place.

Min Aung Hlaing took power on February 1 and ousted elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The junta shortened a decade of democratic reforms that had brought Myanmar out of restraints under the previous junta.
