At dawn on Monday (13) a small space rock entered the atmosphere and caught fire, generating a light show over part of Europe. It had been detected a few hours earlier.
One small and unexpected asteroid hit the earth’s atmosphere in the early hours of last monday 13, e generated a fireball that was clearly observed from several locations in Central and Western Europe.
The meteor, just a meter in diameter, had been discovered a few hours before impact by the Hungarian observer Krisztián Sárneczky, who named it Sar2667.
Upon entering Earth’s atmosphere, the space rock ignited and produced flashes of light which have been seen from northern France, southern Great Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands, around 3:50 local time.
Due to its small size, and the characteristics of the planet’s protective layer, the meteor disintegrated on entry and, It was therefore a non-threatening astronomical event.. It is not yet known whether or not any debris fell to any part of the Earth for further study.
Professor Josep M. Trigo, from the Institute of Space Sciences in Barcelona, declared that this object “it is the seventh asteroid discovered before the impactthis time about a meter in diameter”. The most recent asteroid discovered before it hit Earth, 2022 WJ1, entered the atmosphere over Canada on November 19, 2022.
