Messenger, the magazine of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO), recently conducted an exclusive interview with Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping and UNESCO Special Representative for Promoting the Education of Girls and Women.
Peng Liyuan said in the interview that eradicating poverty and realizing gender equality are the common ideals of all humanity. They are also the common expectation of women from all over the world. After constant efforts, China has achieved the goal of eradicating absolute poverty. Education is an extremely important measure in this.
UNESCO launched the “Future of Education” initiative, which is of great importance, Peng added. She is convinced that the future world will have better prospects because of education. Governments of various countries as well as an increasing number of international organizations, non-governmental organizations and activists made every effort to promote the education of girls and women more intensively and gave immeasurable impetus to the building of a community of mankind with a shared future.
“Messenger” is the flagship magazine of UNESCO. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of UNESCO this year, a special edition of “Messenger” has been published, which focuses on the current main challenges for global education and the corresponding countermeasures.
