Unemployment was below the psychological limit of 10% in July, according to the official data of ELSTAT.
In particular, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in July 2024 stood at 9.9% compared to 11.1% in July 2023 and a downwardly revised 9.5% in June 2024. This implies that there was a rise in one month and even in the midst of a tourism boom.
For this reason, the employed reached 4,229,548 people, marking an increase of 26,303 people compared to July 2023 (0.6%) and a decrease of 46,286 people compared to June 2024 (-1.1%).
At the same time, the unemployed reached 465,167 people, marking a decrease of 62,204 people compared to July 2023 (-11.8%) and an increase of 16,728 people compared to June 2024 (3.7%).
Also, people under the age of 75 not in the labor force, or “people not in the labor force,” meaning people neither working nor looking for work, totaled 3,081,262, an increase of 11,693 from July of 2023 (0.4%) and by 26,998 people compared to June 2024 (0.9%).
What did the DYPA data show?
It is recalled that unemployment decreased by 6.3% in the month of July 2024 as it reached 848,602 people, recording a decrease of 56,842 people compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, according to the data of DYPA. However, there was an increase of 35,644 people (4.4%), compared to the previous month of June 2024.
The number of subsidized persons for the month of July 2024 amounted to 139,124 people, registering an increase of 11,989 people (9.4%) compared to the corresponding month of the previous year July 2023 and an increase of 33,750 people (32.0%) compared to previous month June 2024.
The total of those registered in the DYPA register for the month of July 2024, amounted to 848,602 people. Of these, 453,801 (percentage of 53.5%) persons are registered in the DYPA register for a period of time equal to or longer than 12 months and 394,801 (percentage of 46.5%) are registered in the DYPA register for a period of less than 12 months.
