Unemployment insurance: Medef wants to make conditions tougher for temporary workers in the entertainment industry

There is no way to refuse to save money. Medef recommends tightening the binding conditions temporary entertainment workers to unemployment insurance, according to a document sent to AFP on Wednesday by two unions. This text must be discussed on Friday between employer groups and unions, within the framework unemployment compensation discussions.

This proposal responds to the government’s request to “improve the financial balance of the system” by proposing additional savings. The employers’ document proposes to increase the minimum number of hours worked by temporary workers in the entertainment industry to benefit from unemployment benefit from 507 hours over the 12 months finally to 580 hours for artists and 610 hours for technicians.

Because temporary workers in the entertainment industry, by the nature of their activity, are more often unemployed than other workers, their sector benefits more from the allowances than it provides and it is regularly the subject of criticism because of its high cost to the insurance worker.

Reduced compensation for cross-border workers

The employer project also proposes to introduce a coefficient to reduce compensation for cross-border workers, which is currently calculated in relation to the last salary abroad, generally to well above what is used on the French labor market.

Finally, the text calls for the establishment of a “labor group” on the system, criticized by employers, for a bonus-malus that changes the employer’s contribution for unemployment insurance in some branches to prevent the signing of short contracts.

Negotiations between social partners on unemployment insurance and employment for the elderly, which was launched at the end of October, are expected to take place on November 14. And the new unemployment insurance agreement should replace the current unemployment compensation rules starting January 1st.
