Unemployment in Galicia: Third Lowest Decrease in Spain – July 2022 Update

El Number of unemployed registered in the offices of the Galician public employment services it fell by 1,579 people during July compared to the previous month (-1.22%), according to data published this Wednesday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. They also show that unemployment falls by almost 200 people in the province of Ourense.

This way, Galicia ranked as the third Spanish autonomous community where unemployment fell the most in absolute terms, only behind Andalusia (-5,166 people) and Madrid (-2,926 people).

Specifically, the Community was left with 127,445 unemployed last month, 8.87% less than in July 2022, unemployment falling more strongly than the national average, where it decreased by 205,938 people in the last 12 months, a 7 .14%

By provinces, Pontevedra was where unemployment fell the most, with 741 fewer unemployed in July, 1.48% less, while in A Coruña this figure remained at 588, 1.13% less. In Ourense it fell in 185 people, 1.23%, and in Lugo it did the same in 65, 0.53%.

Among other figures, 59.4% of the Galician unemployed are women and 3.6% are under 25 years of age. By sectors, 3.2% belong to agriculture, while 10.2% to industry. 6.9% of the Galician unemployed worked in construction, while the majority, more than 70.7%, belong to the service sector, and almost 9% did not have a previous job. However, unemployment has fallen in all sectors in Galicia during July.
