Unemployment in Florida is more than double what it was before the pandemic

Miami, Dec 18 (EFE) .- The unemployment rate in Florida stood at 6.4% in November, the same value as the revised rate in October, but more than double that of before the pandemic, according to data officials released this Friday.
In November 9,800 jobs were created in the private sector and more than 49,000 people entered the workforce.
From May to November, 721,500 jobs have been created in the private sector, reported the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
In November, the job creation rate in annual terms fell by 4.7% in Florida, a decrease lower than that registered in the country as a whole (6.2%), as a consequence of the negative impact of the covid-19 on the economic activity.
Before the pandemic, the unemployment level in Florida was around 3%. In February it was 2.8%, in May it exceeded 14% and it has been falling to 6.4% in November.
According to data released today, Florida had 372,800 fewer jobs in November than a year ago.
In Orlando, the number one tourist destination in the country thanks to theme parks and attractions, 115,900 jobs were lost in one year, in Miami, 53,700, and in Fort Lauderdale, 61,000.
In these three cities, which are highly dependent on tourism, the unemployment rate in November was 9.5%, 7.4% and 7.3%, respectively.
The sectors with the most dynamism in job creation compared to the previous month in all of Florida are Leisure and hospitality, Education and health services, Construction and Industry.
The consumer confidence index in November stood at 80.9, 3.5 points lower than the revised figure for October (84.4).
