The registered unemployment of last August reflects a decrease in unemployment of 19,844 people in the Canary Islands, according to the report published this Thursday by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE). In the meantime, the total number of people currently looking for a job in the Islands reaches 234,257 unemployed.
By provinces, in that of Las Palmas the decrease last month translates into 10,560 people, while in Santa Cruz de Tenerife unemployment fell by 9,284 people. Regarding the total of unemployed by provinces; Las Palmas has 121,470 unemployed and Santa Cruz de Tenerife the total number of unemployed is 112,787.
The biggest decline in an August
In the national set, the number of unemployed fell by 82,583 unemployed in August (-2.4%), its biggest setback in a month of August within the historical series.
Unemployment falls in 13 Autonomous Communities. In absolute terms, the most notable falls were registered in Andalusia (-32,102 people), the Canary Islands (-19,844 people) and Catalonia (-17,186 people). However, it rose in the Valencian Community (6,606 people), the Madrid Community (3,526 people) and the Basque Country (3,058 people) and in Castilla y León (956 people).
