PARIS, Aug 3 (Reuters) – Unemployment claims rose in the United States in the week to July 29, to 227,000 from 221,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.
Economists expected an average of 227,000 jobless claims.
Registrations for the week of July 22 have not been reviewed.
The four-week moving average on July 29 stands at 228,250 against 233,750 (revised) the previous week.
The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.700 million during the week to July 22 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.679 million the previous week.
