In Ukraine, citizens with and without work experience (who may have worked unofficially) have the right to receive unemployment benefits – however, in the latter case, some applicants for financial assistance from the state may be refused. The determining factor here is the age of the applicant, explained in the Melitopol city-district employment center.

For citizens who have not worked before or simply received a salary in an envelope without employment records, that is, who have no insurance experience, unemployment benefits will be minimal.
The amount of such a minimum wage for the period of quarantine and within 30 calendar days after its end is 1 thousand hryvnia.
It is worth recalling here that the maximum amount of unemployment benefits since December 2021 is almost 10 thousand hryvnia, that is, ten times more.
The minimum unemployment benefit without official work experience can be received by Ukrainians under the age of 35. The term for the payment of such assistance is 180 calendar days.
But citizens over 35 years old who do not have an employment relationship and, accordingly, work experience (even if they worked before that “in the shadows”), according to the current legislation, will be denied the appointment of unemployment benefits.
What Ukrainians receive unemployment benefits
The amount of unemployment benefit depends on the length of insurance:
- up to two years – 50%,
- from two to six years – 55%,
- from six to 10 – 60%,
- over 10 years – 70%.
Unemployment benefit is paid depending on the duration of unemployment as a percentage of a certain amount:
- the first 90 calendar days – 100%,
- within the next 90 calendar days – 80%;
- further – 70%.
Recall that a general condition for receiving unemployment benefits is the need to visit an employment center. But for the period of the quarantine, such a requirement does not apply – the unemployed must simply confirm their status by phone or email and be in touch with a career counselor (employee of the employment center).
