An unusual discovery three years ago foreshadowed the debut of the current generation S-Class
Few people know what happens to concept cars after their finest hour: the company leaves especially valuable examples in their museums, but where do all the rest go? The answer to this question is in front of you.
A user of the social network Reddit published photos of an unusual capsule that he found in the backyard of a waste treatment plant. In appearance, it resembles the interior frame of a four-door car with characteristic glazing, but without wheels. It turned out that this is a concept car that Mercedes-Benz built several years ago for the debut of the future S-Class – and its fate, alas, is unenviable.
The My MBUX concept car was a platform to demonstrate the capabilities of the second generation MBUX media system, which later appeared on the production S-Class sedan. It was used during the filming of promotional videos for a long teaser campaign, so the interior almost completely replicated the interior of the future production car.
True, after the long-awaited release of the “esque”, it was decided to get rid of the concept car: the steering wheel, decor, dashboard and media system screens were removed from the interior, and the portable control panel with a separate display disappeared from the central armrest in the back row. There are no German brand logos anywhere either. But the seats, screens on the backs for rear passengers and power seat adjustment units remained in their places – they went to the landfill along with the “car”.
The further fate of the concept car remains unknown: apparently, no one is in a hurry to destroy it, but representatives of the Mercedes-Benz brand are unlikely to care about its future. By the way, they found a capsule in the suburbs of Atlanta – this is where the main North American office of the German company is located.
