The Cuban authorities indicated that the energy crisis on the Island is much worse than had been speculated, and that the plans for scheduled blackouts that each province had recently established could not be met due to the low levels of electricity available. In that sense, the Electrical Union (UNE) of Matanzas indicated that the territory was going to have to experience six hours of blackouts for every two hours of electricity available.
The official statement from the UNE, shared on its channel Telegram, points out that the restoration of electrical service “will depend on the behavior of demand and the availability of the electrical system,” so having only six hours of electricity throughout the day was not ruled out.
The situation was replicated by state journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso, who recognized that the new plan came in the midst of the most serious energy crisis that the country had experienced in recent years.
“6 hours of blackout for two hours of electricity is the plan in Matanzas due to the generation deficit. This has been the most difficult period since the blackouts returned a few years ago,” his publication reads.
As expected, the news generated great discontent among citizens, who indicated that they were already getting tired of the long periods of blackouts in the middle of a particularly hot period.
Others pointed out that those whose families live outside of Havana are bearing the brunt, as they affirm that the authorities are giving preferential treatment to the capital to generate the least possible inconvenience to tourists, while the rest of the country experiences it. from blackout to blackout.
“What is happening to our families who live outside of Havana is a disaster”; “We continue not to offer timely information to non-Havana residents…I’m not saying this for the journalists, but for the authorities” and “At least in Matanzas it’s like that, in Granma they take it away from 8 and 9 hours and put it in 1 and a half hours. Everything goes to waste, even the little milk of the little ones at home,” were some of the comments made by users.
Other users urged the authorities to offer solutions, since the problems causing these blackouts were already “more than known,” referring to the constant excuses used by the regime.
“It is important that the authorities explain to the people what the solution is and in what period of time energy returns to normality. The causes of the problem are more than known, but I think that the people who resist with such dignity and decorum need the top leaders to explain to them and, above all, give them hope,” wrote user Miguel Ángel Viguera.
“Do you know why they don’t offer hope? Because they can’t comply, it’s simple. He has told so many lies that they cannot stand another smear campaign,” another Internet user responded.
