An XXL actress without complexes who travels to the universe of poetry

The Catalan Itziar Castro had already shown that in the audiovisual field she could do everything, that she is an actress from head to toe, as well as a brave and unapologetic woman. But he kept a secret, which was neither more nor less than to make his aptitudes in the world of print known to the general public. And 2021 arrived for it to be unveiled. Itziar Castro has given bookstores the work ‘With the heart ahead’, a collection of poems that could well be considered a confession of part; of hers, in which page by page she reveals personal experiences that travel, from the hand of an author born on Valentine’s Day, from love to heartbreak without leaving aside verses that transfer to the matter of her physique, a notorious overweight on which so much ink has been poured without an eyelash having moved. So much so that it is well known that Itziar Castro finds no problem in undressing and showing off her flesh –he just did it by photographing herself half-naked covered with copies of her book–, despite whoever she weighs, and whatever the omnipresent networks say.

The interpreter who touched the Goya for the best new actress for ‘Skins’, who participated in’ Champions’, in addition to having been a teacher of ‘Operación Triunfo’ and offered the best of herself to series such as’ Vis a vis’ or ‘ Paquita Salas’, among many others, has now embarked on a journey to her own heart hand in hand with the verse in that book in which in one of her poems – the confessions of a brave woman return – under the title ‘XXL’ He says: “You wanted to hide me, / but I was too BIG.”

-Do you have more haters than money?

-Yes, without a doubt, but also more fans than money.

-Do you hate the word fat?

-I’m fat and what? I don’t hate any term. The blows hurt, but the words do not. They have the strength that we want to give them and if we appropriate them they do not hurt.

-Her favorite word.

-It is in Catalan, pessigolles (tickling). It has a funny point and a lot of sound.

-Do you suffer from pandemic fatigue?

– I am until the pirri of the pandemic, who is not it?

-It was a volunteer for the Covid vaccine. Against what else is injection lacking?

-Against intolerance, verbal aggression and violence.

-Who has more actor wood: Santiago Abascal, Pedro Sánchez or the emeritus king?

-Santiago Abascal. He plays a well-studied role and says things that even he can’t believe. – Is it seen in ‘The island of temptations’?

-I envy the island because there is no Covid, but putting fidelity to the test is a misunderstood concept.

The B side

Hospitable with her friends, can’t see a crooked picture

Itziar Castro assures that her main secret, that of writing, has come to light with the publication of her first book of poetry. It was thanks to confinement that – through the invitation of another author, Elvira Sastre, to participate in a series of readings ‘online’ – she decided to make her verses public. However, when talking to the Catalan interpreter, other facets are discovered that show that the actress also has a very busy personal life. One of them is that it is considered “the pension of my friends in Madrid”, the city in which he resides. “People always come to my house,” he says. However, this fact collides with another of her hidden parts: her obsessive compulsive disorder that leads her to be a freak of order. «If I see a crooked painting, I have to put it right. I am very much that everything is in its place, “he confesses.

So combining the many visits she receives with maintaining a home in which everything is in its place is a complicated task, especially if you have that “obsession”, as she says, in order. “To anyone who comes I tell him that this is his home, that he can take and use whatever he wants without asking permission. Of course, then he has to return it to its place, “he assures. So much is his perfectionism that, he relates, in the publication of his first collection of poems he has been pending even the color of the typography used, in this case black and red to highlight some words and, even, the design of the copy. «The cover, the counterpart, the grid, the corrections, where each poem goes, the order … I have supervised everything. The good thing is that the editors have given me all the freedom, “says Castro.

It is classified as “transparent” with obsessive compulsive disorder

«In my house you can take whatever you want but you have to put it back in its place»
