UNDP ready to support Asia-Pacific region

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) must help countries in the region to synchronously improve institutions, human resources and infrastructure, as well as transform economies towards digitization, reducing carbon emissions and responding to climate change.

The United Nations Development Program continues to support countries in the Asia-Pacific region to overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic.

During a United Nations Development Program (UNDP) meeting on the development situation in Asia-Pacific held on January 19, Minister Counselor Nguyên Phuong Trà, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations ( UN), stressed that UNDP should help countries in the region to improve institutions, human resources and infrastructure, as well as transform economies towards digitalization, reducing carbon emissions and responding to climate change.

Diplomat Nguyên Phuong Trà urged the parties to intensify cooperation to ensure harmony in the development of UNDP strategies aimed at supporting the development of the region for the period 2021-2025 and the socio-economic policies of the countries of the region.

During the process of implementing the dual objective of combating the COVID-19 pandemic and boosting economic growth, Vietnam has faced many difficulties and challenges, including the distribution of vaccines against the disease, has she noted.

For her part, Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, pledged to continue to support countries in the region to overcome the consequences of the epidemic and implement the sustainable development goals.

UNDP will focus on the areas of COVID-19 vaccine distribution, renewable energy transformation and invest in human resources, he said.

On this occasion, the participants suggested that the UNDP create favorable conditions for the implementation of the objectives of sustainable development, environmental protection, digital transformation in businesses, poverty eradication and the fight against climate change.
