A cooperation agreement was signed to this effect last Tuesday between the Minister of Justice Paul Marie Gondjout and the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program Francis James.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is committed to providing multifaceted assistance to the Ministry of Justice, in order to support the implementation of the Transitional Strategy for the Reform of the Judicial System (STRJ). The short, medium and long term goal is to improve access to a quality judicial system, guarantee transparent, efficient and inclusive justice for the benefit of the Gabonese population.
Indeed, it is a cooperation agreement between the parties, which essentially concerns three areas, namely: the development of technical and feasibility studies allowing in particular the revision of codes and the construction and rehabilitation of justice infrastructure; the implementation of various activities and initiatives which improve access to justice for litigants, support for continuing professional training, capacity building of justice sector personnel in the different jurisdictions and bodies judicial.
Let us recall that in Gabon the judicial system contains several dysfunctions, the work of the Symposium on Justice Reform was organized for this purpose in November and continued in January with the implementation of the recommendations of this symposium and in March with the submission of the report to the Minister of Justice therefore one of the missions was the development, in accordance with the vision of the Gabonese Head of State, of the Transition Strategy for the reform of the judicial system, a document which will serve as a thread driver to modernization “of our judicial system and our prison administration», Explained Minister Paul Marie Gondjout.
