Underwear killer: Oneplus 8 Pro sees through clothing and plastic

The Oneplus 8 Pro has an unusual function that may not have been implemented on purpose: If users activate the photo chrome recording filter in the camera app, the smartphone takes pictures in the infrared range.

This means that users can look through certain materials with their Oneplus 8 Pro, since the camera also records light waves that move outside the human-visible area. Apparently the main camera sensor of the Oneplus 8 Pro does not have a filter layer that blocks IR rays.

Specifically, the IR images work with thin materials such as clothing or plastic, and only if these materials are black. We have the like a user on Twitter Tried with an Apple TV: Without the activated filter, the device looks normal, but after activation, the components inside can be viewed.

We also had success with a fountain pen, which clearly shows the different display of the same materials, but which are colored differently. The black parts of the fountain pen are transparent, while the green parts are not.

Even with thin, black T-shirts you can use the filter to see how we checked. With some T-shirts it works better, with some less well – we cannot see a connection with the material. We could not make out any body features under the T-shirt. We cannot conclusively determine whether it is possible to recognize underwear exactly. With certain combinations we think it is possible to at least guess at the underwear worn under a shirt.
