Understanding the Symptoms and Risk Factors of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

The European Association of Urology said that the urgent urge to urinate in men indicates benign prostatic hyperplasia, which is an enlargement of the prostate gland.

The association explained that other symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia include difficulty urinating (such as burning and weak urine stream), urinary incontinence, and sexual problems (such as erectile dysfunction), with blood in the urine in some cases.

The risk factors for benign prostatic hyperplasia include advanced age, genetic factors, obesity, and smoking.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is diagnosed by urine and blood tests, rectal examination, and ultrasound, and is treated with medications in simple cases or with surgery in advanced cases.
