JAKARTA – Much Bad Cholesterol or LDL has many subtypes and most people have the small dense type which damages blood vessels in the heart.

Meanwhile, Dr Nishith Chandra, Principal Director of Interventional Cardiology, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Delhi, said that some patients often report no significant changes in bad cholesterol levels or low-density lipoprotein (LDL), even though you have improved your diet, lifestyle and exercise.

“But what they don’t know is that although a clean diet and dedicated physical activity can lower cholesterol, in some cases, lifestyle modifications alone are not enough without treatment. “This is because most people are aware of the amount of LDL, but do not understand its natural nature,” said Nishith Chandra, quoted by Indian Express on Thursday (21/9/2023).

He explained, although dietary intervention can control it LDL increased LDL levels require additional intervention with medications.

LDL has many subcategories, large, medium and small. However, not only small particles, also solid ones, can easily penetrate cell membranes and circulate in the blood. This means that, although the amount of LDL is usually lower than in Caucasians, the proportion of small density LDL is higher.

“It is more toxic to blood vessel walls. “That’s why, given their sticky and stubborn nature, they need to be controlled aggressively with medication and lifestyle correction,” he said.

Research has shown that those who have a lot LDL Small people have a 300 percent risk of heart disease compared to people with large LDL. This explains why about 50 percent of people who suffer a heart attack have normal total blood cholesterol levels.
