Description
Who actually was Isaiah, this prophet from the Old Testament? The book of Isaiah itself reveals surprisingly little about him. The sparse information about him shows that his message – which was passed down after his death – is more important. The book of Isaiah accompanies the history of Judah and Jerusalem, which were subject to the Assyrian and Persian empires, in ever new “editions” over three centuries. This meant threat and lack of freedom for the population. This eventful history shaped people and prophecy. Andreas Schüle shows in a clearly understandable way what the book of Isaiah confronts this situation through the eyes of prophetic criticism and expectation – and how the book itself constantly changes.
