Green or orange dot

Owners of newer Android smartphones and iPhones are still confused by the green and orange dots that seem to randomly appear at the top of their displays. Although these graphic symbols seem really unobtrusive, you should not ignore them in any case – because you may be in danger.

A thread on the Reddit discussion forum asked, “Why do I keep getting that green dot randomly on my screen?” The green and orange dots were added to the iOS operating system for iPhones with version 14, and their appearance is related to user protection; this is a useful privacy feature. The dots that appear on smartphone screens are not meant to scare us, but to help us. They signal when apps access the camera or microphone.

If you see an orange dot in the upper part of the display, some application is currently using the microphone; whether it’s a voice note, a phone call or recording a message via WhatsApp, Messenger or Snapchat. While the green dot reveals that the app is using your camera or even camera and microphone at the same time. You can usually see it, for example, when you record a video with sound.

If a green or yellow dot appears in connection with the launch of an application that should not use any of these functions, be cautious. He has more rights than are absolutely necessary. But it will be even worse when you see the colored dot and realize that you haven’t launched any related app at all. This means only one thing – that someone is spying on you.

How to remove permissions?

In case you feel that an application is using the recording device without authorization, you can simply disable it. On your iPhone, visit Settings, go to Privacy, and in the Microphone or Camera section, you can use the switches to disable or enable access for individual apps.

If you have an Android smartphone, go to Settings, choose the Apps section, find the app you want to remove permissions from, click on it, and choose Permissions.

And if you think an app is doing something malicious in the background, it might be best to just remove (delete) it.
