The heart never has a day off. The hard-working muscle contracts rhythmically 24 hours a day, from cradle to grave, to ensure blood reaches every part of the body.
However, some people may develop a condition known as heart failure is called a heart attack, in which the heart suddenly loses its pumping power and can no longer supply the body’s organs and tissues with enough blood, oxygen and nutrients.
Heart failure can have many causes, from high blood pressure and alcohol consumption to cardiac arrhythmias or congenital heart defects. But it could also be the result of a deficiency of an important mineral, according to research from Lund University in Sweden.
