– Understanding the frustration – VG

UNGKAR: Some of the bulls that breeders know about have good sperm quality, while others are more enthusiastic. Jeilane’s grandfather was called Skretting and he was a great man. Agriculture Minister Sandra Borch (Sp) is watching closely.

STANGE (VG) There is a strong smell of successful Norwegian exports at Store Ree farm. Here, the legendary bull Braut is still a bigger star than his namesake in Manchester City.

“On Wednesday 7th September we will collect the sperm from the bull Braut!”

The sms was sent by the Minister of Agriculture Sandra Borch (Sp).

There is only one problem: the Bull Braut is Death.

And things are not going very well with the Center Party either. The last measurement of TV 2 gives the party 4.6% and the AP / SP government struggles with crisis management and announces a record tight state budget.

– That’s not good, and I understand the frustration out there. At the same time, it was a challenging time to take over. I also know that it is too easy to say that crises are the explanation for this, but we know that it has sparked political debates that have required taking a stand, Borch tells VG.

SPERM DONORS: Geno’s bulls deliver once or twice a week. Some deliver better on Wednesdays.

The minister comes first

VG meets the Minister of Agriculture at the Store Ree farm in Stange, where the Geno company produces 1.3 million doses of Norwegian red deer seed per year. The sun shines on Mjøsa, the smell of barns settles into her clothes and the minister says the insemination catalog was her favorite magazine as a child.

– This is a huge export product that really has the opportunity to reach even more countries around the world. It’s important work being done to raise animals with good milk and meat production, good health and good temperament, says Borch.

Suddenly we have a bad time. Do we reach the stable before the scheduled departure of the sperm at 12? The bulls must arrive on time, because today’s two semen extractions also control the rest of the production.

– They won’t come until I come, says Borch in confident Northern Norwegian.

Better than Haaland

A second. It’s over before an inexperienced eye notices it’s in progress. Bull Jeilane climbs a “ghost cow” says Peder Byenstuen is up front with an artificial cow sheath and then it’s over. Byenstuen shows off today’s catch, and together with Jeilane we await the verdict.

– It ended so quickly, says Borch.

The young bull is from Bryne, as legend has it trace It was also. And the same goes for the Norwegian footballer Erling Braut Haaland. Both the bull and the spitz have led to large Norwegian exports, but at Store Ree farm the animal is still the biggest star.

– Haaland has not yet reached 100,000 goals, says Kristin Malonæs, Geno’s general manager.

Braut generated 300,000 cows and bulls in over 30 countries during his nearly 15 years as a sperm donor.

Jeilane is still young and has not yet achieved the same legendary status. But today’s effort gets the “excellent” verdict.

– Jeilane delivered, says Borch.

One work session can produce two to ten milliliters of bull semen, which in turn can contain 50 to over 1,000 doses. About 80% become calves, Geno employees say. Incredibly much more effective than the old way, it is well established.

– But then you lose a lot of fun, says Borch.

– Extremely challenging times

– How are you going to get a little more momentum in the government project?

– I think we have good projects underway, and then crises take up a lot of every minister’s time. Now it will be challenging in the future when people are rightly concerned about rising prices. We now need to find solutions so that people feel predictable and safe during crises, says Borch.

NO EQUALITY: In this photo, Agriculture Minister Borch is the only woman. The only cows at Store Ree are the “ghost cows,” which the bulls ride on when delivering export goods.

Not optimistic about the future:

– We know that we will also have to face extremely challenging times in the coming years. The energy crisis will not go away. Access to raw materials will be difficult. Therefore, it is one of our most important tasks for the future to prepare people for more difficult times, says Borch.

– I believe it is the right government to sit in the moment of crisis we are in now. We need to resolve the crises that arise, and therefore what is important to prioritize the state budget is security for the people and preparedness, he continues.
