Have you heard about the €100 fuel check but have questions about how it works and its eligibility criteria? In a context where prices at the pump continue to rise, this fuel check appears like a breath of fresh air for many French people. But like any financial aid, it is surrounded by conditions, procedures and little subtleties you need to know to get the most out of it. Here’s what you need to know to benefit from it.
What is the fuel check?
Announced by President Emmanuel Macron, the 100 euro fuel check will make its comeback in 2024. This measure aims to support low-income workers in the face of soaring fuel prices. This boost equates to a discount of more than 10 cents per liter of fuel for a year for an average motorist traveling around 12,200 km per year with a vehicle consuming 6.5 liters per 100 km.
The fuel check is not a new thing. It has already been implemented in the past and proven effective in helping workers modest. This measure aims to ease the financial burden on French people who depend on their vehicle to get to work, for shopping or for any other essential activity.
Who can benefit ?
The main eligibility criterion to benefit from this aid is the reference tax income (RFR) per unit. To be more precise, your RFR must be less than or equal to approximately €14,700 per year. This criterion makes it possible to target low-income workers, those who most feel the impact of high fuel prices in their daily budget.
It is important to note that this threshold of €14,700 is not set in stone. Indeed, it could be slightly enhanced to take into account wage increases or inflation. The government is aware that economic conditions are changing and wishes to adapt this assistance accordingly.
How to request it?
To obtain this check, you will need to complete an online questionnaire on the tax website. The procedure will be similar to that of the previous year. It is crucial to note that the allocation of this check is not automatic. In other words, even if you meet the eligibility criteria, you will have to do the process on your own.
How much can you receive?
The basis of this aid is a check for €100 per eligible person. However, there is an important nuance: if you live in a household where each member uses a different vehicle to get to work, the total amount you can receive could reach €200. This means that if you and your spouse, for example, both meet the eligibility criteria and use separate vehicles for your business travel, you will be able to combine your aid.
To benefit from this higher amount, each member of the household will have to complete their own questionnaire online on the tax website and indicate that he uses a different vehicle to get to work. It is therefore crucial to follow the instructions carefully and provide all the required information to maximize your assistance.
Once your request is approved, it may take some time before you receive your check. Although specific lead times may vary, it is generally advised to allow a few weeks for receipt. In most cases, the check is sent directly to your home by post.
