Diabetes Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are the most famous types of diabetes, but there is a difference between them, as Dr. Rehab Maidan, director and consultant at the Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Serum and Vaccine, said that each type has its own symptoms, causes, and treatment that is different from the second.
She added that the symptoms of diabetes in the second type are constant urination, dry throat, non-healing of wounds, the appearance of an abscess in the body, dental problems, severe inflammation of the nerves, and eating a lot of sweets, and despite that, he suffers from weight loss. As for the first type, the symptoms do not appear significantly but suddenly. The person suffers from severe abdominal pain and sometimes coma or lack of urinary control.
She continued: “We can say that the causes of the first type are a group of factors such as the environment. Arab countries are more susceptible to diabetes, and there is a genetic and immunological part and an unknown part of the cause. As for the second type, the main cause is excessive obesity, and the person has a genetic factor, and in the event that the person maintains his weight. His diet will protect himself from diabetes.”
She said: “The treatment in the first type is completely dependent on insulin, whether long-acting insulin or mealtime insulin, which is the best type of treatment. As for the second type, treatment depends on pills sometimes, and insulin may be added, but that is related to the accumulated sugar and the diagnosis of the condition.”
She emphasized that one of the basic elements in both types is that the patient exercises regularly, even if it is 10 minutes a day, and adheres to a healthy diet and follows the food pyramid, and that most of his meals contain vegetables and a certain portion of fruit, while conducting periodic examinations and follow-ups with the doctor, as this protects you from problems. A lot of it in the eyes, teeth and liver.”
