Dr. Majdi Badran revealed the damages of mosquito bites on the body, and does it affect people with a serious blood disease or not?
Dr. Magdy Badran, a member of the Egyptian Society for Allergy and Immunology, explained, in a special statement to “Masrawy”, about the most prominent damage to mosquito bites on the body, and ways to prevent it.
Badran said several diseases are transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito, and they include the following:
1- Zika virus
2- Dengue fever
3-malaria
4-West Nile virus.
He added that most of the Zika virus infections do not show symptoms. If symptoms appear, they are as follows:
rash
Fever.
conjunctivitis.
Muscle and joint pain, headache that may last for two to seven days.
In addition, Zika virus infection during pregnancy can cause the infant to be born with microcephaly, congenital anomalies, preterm labor, and miscarriage.
Infection with malaria:
Symptoms of malaria usually include between 7 and 18 days after the bite of an infected mosquito.
They are as follows:
High fever and sweating.
chills.
Headache.
Feeling confused.
Feeling very tired and sleepy (especially in children).
Feeling sick.
abdominal pain
diarrhea.
Anorexia.
muscle pain;
Yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes.
sore throat.
Cough.
Breathing difficulty.
Dengue fever:
It is also transmitted by mosquitoes and is common in tropical and subtropical regions of the world.
Mild dengue causes high fever and flu-like symptoms.
He pointed out that they are mistakenly diagnosed as symptoms of other diseases, such as influenza, and usually begin to appear between four and 10 days after exposure to an infectious mosquito bite.
However, many people may not show any symptoms when infected with dengue fever, and the temperature of a person with dengue fever reaches 40 degrees Celsius.
Symptoms:
Headache.
Pain behind the eyes.
Muscle pain.
Bone or joint pain.
Nausea.
vomiting.
swollen glands
Skin rash.
Most people recover within a week.
Dengue hemorrhagic fever:
Blood vessels are damaged and blood leaks from them. The number of platelets in the bloodstream decreases. This can cause shock, internal bleeding, and organ failure.
He stressed that the best way to prevent infection in areas where dengue is common is to avoid mosquito bites and take the necessary steps to reduce the mosquito population.
West Nile virus
